His nursing career was primarily spent in tertiary facilities, but he also gained invaluable experience during relief shifts at a small hospital in Union, South Carolina. There, he was inspired by family doctors who managed a broad spectrum of medical duties—from general surgery to obstetrics—with a genuine passion and resilience, despite their exhaustion. This environment shaped his understanding of a fulfilling medical practice.

His approach to patient care is straightforward: be available and approachable. Steven embodies a traditional yet modern practice of medicine, maintaining strong patient relationships while staying current with medical standards. His passion lies in family-centered obstetrics and pediatrics. He has practiced every aspect of family medicine, but these areas remain closest to his heart.

Steven's professional ethos is as unpretentious as his personality, which he describes as "common and country as cornbread." Steven's academic credentials include an M.D. from the Medical University of the Americas in Nevis, West Indies, followed by a family medicine residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Centre in Tulsa.

Family is central to Steven's life. As a father of 13 children, he cherishes the time spent with them, even amidst his busy schedule. In addition to his medical career, Steven serves as an Anglican clergyman, contributing significantly to his church community. Before his ordination, he was a professional church musician and continues to play the piano at home, occasionally participating in church services.
